WATER IN CAPE TOWN
Some people think it smells strange.
That is the smell of chlorine. If you don't like it, leave the water uncovered for an hour. The smell will go.
Does all the city's water come from Table Mountain?
The dams on Table Mountain only supply a small amount of the city's drinking water. Most of it is supplied from the areas that you can see in the distant mountains.
Is there enough for everyone to use?
Because summer is dry in Cape Town, the city needs a lot of rain in winter. In 2015 we didn't get enough. This means in summer 2016 we have to be careful. So, residents and visitors to the city are asked to use water responsibly.
What can we do?
- Spend less time in the shower.
- Turn off the tap while brushing teeth and shaving.
- Gardeners are asked to re-use bath or shower water for their plants.
